Meteor/Fire Ball Sorceress Build for Diablo 2 Resurrected

Meteor/Fire Ball Sorceress Build for Diablo 2 Resurrected

One of the best Starter builds for the Sorceress class based on two powerful Fire Spells

Meteor/Fire Ball
Fire Sorceress Starter Build

For Diablo 2 Resurrected

Build Overview

Meteor is one of the most powerful Sorceress' Spells and truly a top leveling ability in her entire arsenal. When fully upgraded, with all of its' synergy skills allocated, and supported by Fire Ball and decent Cast Rate breakpoint, it is one of the deadliest Fire Spells in the game. The build itself allows you to farm most of the popular farming spots on Hell difficulty, sadly, you will be limited to areas with just a few Fire immune monsters, because you will be dealing only that type of damage with your core skills.

Meteor deals its' damage in two phases, first, the "on hit" effect, has a delay, but deals simply devastation damage to enemies in its' radius. The second phase is the DoT effect your Meteor leaves on the ground, which has increased damage for each point allocated in Inferno (that's why it's also advised to max it out). You are also going to use Fire Ball, which offers a much faster way to get extra AoE damage without having to wait for the Meteor to hit the ground. At higher levels, Fire Ball becomes your primary damage-dealing ability because of the Meteor's high delay

 Pros  Cons
Great Mobility (well, it's a Sorc after all)  Deals only one type of damage
Very High AoE Damage   Squishy at a certain point
One of the smoothest Leveling skills in the game   May feel slow and clunky without proper gear because of the Meteor's delay
Great for Magic Find and farming some popular Hell-difficulty spots

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - barely enough to equip your desired gear. 156 Strength requirement on Spirit Monarch in most cases will have the highest Strength requirement in your build
  2. Dexterity - same as Strength - you only need enough Dexterity to meet gear requirements. Possibly no points will be allocated here
  3. Vitality - you should put all your remaining points here - this is the primary stat for most builds in Diablo 2 Resurrected including that one
  4. Energy -  adding points to Energy is a waste - just make sure to bring Mana Potions with you
COLD SPELLS

You will find Frozen Armor here, which is the core defensive Spell for Sorceress. This is the only skill you will allocate here, and you are going to spend just 1 point on it

Skills:

  1. Frozen Armor [1/20] - gives you a solid defensive boost by increasing your Defense Rating and freezing attackers. Do not spend more than 1 point on it, as it will be increased by your gear later

LIGHTNING SPELLS

Sorceress's Lightning Spells offers some decent utility for this build. You are obviously going to take Teleport for the unparalleled mobility it offers. Allocating Static Field is optional, as you may find it to be too troublesome to cast against mid-tier content that you are most likely going to deal with when playing Meteor Sorc, but it's still worth considering

Skills:

  1. Static Field [1/20] - reduces the maximum Life of affected enemies, allowing you to take them down much faster. It's a great utility skill that helps you deal with non-Lighting immune Bosses and tougher enemies
  2. Telekinesis [1/20] - mainly as a prerequisite to Teleport, but can also be used to save time when clicking Town Portals, your Stash, or stunning Fire Immune monsters when your Merc is dealing with them
  3. Teleport [1/20] - the best mobility Spell in Diablo 2 Resurrected. A must-have for all Sorcerer characters
FIRE SPELLS

The primary Skill Tree for this build. It contains all the core Fire Spells that you are going to deal damage with, but also the Warmth buff that helps you regenerate Mana without having to invest much in Mana Regen equipment or Energy Attribute

Skills:

  1. Warmth [1/20] - a passive skill that increases your Mana Regeneration rate. You can spend just 1 point here initially, and then allocate all excess points after all the other Skills mentioned are maxed out
  2. Fire Bolt [20/20] - pretty much the first Spell that you are going to use on your adventure. Initially, it deals decent damage, but later on, it's solely taken as a synergy skill to Fire Ball and Meteor
  3. Fire Ball [20/20] - one of the primary damage-dealing abilities you are using in this build. Unlike Meteor, it has no cooldown,  so stands for a quickly accessible source of AoE damage. At higher levels, you will be mainly using Fire Ball which is then supported by the extra damage from falling Meteors and their DoT effect
  4. Inferno [20/20] - prerequisite mainly, but should be maxed out later on to boost the DoT portion of Meteor's damage
  5. Blaze [1/20] - prerequisite only
  6. Fire Wall [1/20] - another prerequisite to Meteor Skill
  7. Meteor [20/20] - the core ability used in this build. It calls down a Meteor from the sky to fall down and deal massive AoE damage in its radius, dealing Fire Damage on hit, and Fire Damage over Time with the ground effect it leaves behind. It's best used during leveling and becomes a secondary skill at higher levels cast occasionally to leave its' DoT effect
  8. Fire Mastery [20/20] - a mandatory Passive for this build that boosts the damage of all your Fire Skills

Items

Just like with any other Caster build, you are primarily going to increase the level of all your Abilities (All or Fire Spells in this case) and then Faster Cast Rate. FCR breakpoints for Fire Sorc are at 63, 105, and 200% which basically leaves no other choice but to aim for the middle one. Please note that FCR doesn't reduce the Meteor's delay, it just reduces the time of your character's Cast animation which increases the cast frequency of your Spells. Other than that, you aim at keeping all your Resistances at 75, and possibly adding some extra Faster Hit Recovery, so that you don't get stunned to death by random enemies. Since this build is not primarily oriented on dealing with end-game Bosses after you reach a certain level of gear, there is not much to improve, so it's best to simply increase your Magic Find stat (mainly via items like Magic Rings, Chance Guards, War Travelers, etc.). Min-maxing the build and pushing it beyond the level we put down below is pointless - you would be forcing your character to deal with content it simply wasn't destined to deal with.

CHARMS

  1. Grand Charms -  just aim at Grand Charms with bonus to Fire Skill (obviously) but also possibly extra Life or Magic Find
  2. Large Charms -  using Large Charms in D2R is not recommended, with the exception of Hellfire Torch
  3. Small Charms - with these you should cap all your Resistances, and possibly provide extra MF, FHR, or Life
  4. As for Unique Charms we recommend getting all three most popular ones: Hellfire Torch, Annihilus, and Gheed's Fortune (preferably with 40% MF) which is a standard setup for all the builds in Diablo 2 Resurrected

MERCENARY

We recommend hiring Act 2 Mercenary with the Might Aura that offers the highest DPS. Your Merc is the only way you can deal with Fire immune monsters, so it's advised to gear it up properly

  1. Insight Runeword in Ethereal Spear - This provides a Meditation Aura that increases our Mana Recovery Rate which is extremely helpful. Later on you can replace it with Infinity Runeword for MASSIVE damage it offers, and Conviction Aura that can help you break immunities on monsters
  2. Fortitude Runeword in high defense rating armor - the single-best body armor for your Mercenary, rending him nearly immortal
  3. Vampire Gaze or Andariel's Visage are both extremely viable choices for Act 2 Merc. Gaze makes him more tanky, while Andy's grants him more DPS thanks to increased Attack Speed
