War Singer
MF Barbarian Build

For Diablo 2 Resurrected

Build Overview

Barbarian builds tend to rely on raw power, high health values, and snowballing melee damage. Because of this, they all play out very similarly and don't offer too much variety. However, there's a hidden gem among Barbarian builds. A gem that is able to defeat enemies by... shouting at them. Yes, a War Singer Barbarian can literally heckle his enemies to death, which makes it one of the most unique and fun-to-play Diablo 2 Resurrected builds. Moreover, it works extremely well as a Magic-Finding character.

Thanks to the power of Warcries, the featured Barbarian Build offers an amazing combination of survivability, solid AoE damage, and Crowd Control - Battle Orders ensure that we have tons of Health, and War Cry stuns and damages all monsters in range. As a result, we are able to stun-lock almost all enemies (except Bosses and some uniques) and shout at them until they die, while not worrying too much about our own safety. Because of this, we can focus on Magic Finding gear without compromising the build's staying power or damage output by too much.

 Pros  Cons
Good Mobility   Mobility without Enigma isn't that good, actually
Great Utility with Warcries   Sacrifices some offensive power to gain extra Magic Find
Very High Survivability   Clear-speeds are below average
One of the best builds for Magic Finding

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - All you want, in terms of Strength, is enough of it to equip everything you will want to use on your character.
  2. Dexterity - Same as Strength - you only need enough Dexterity to meet gear requirements.
  3. Vitality - You should put all your remaining points here - main stat.
  4. Energy - Adding points to Energy is an extreme waste - don't do it.
WARCRIES

From here, we'll get the signature skills of this "War Singer" build - Warcries.

Skills:

  1. Skills:

  2. Find Potion [1/20] - Prerequisite. Attempts to find a random potion in a monster's corpse.
  3. Howl [20/20] - Frightens nearby enemies, causing them to run away in fear. Each additional point spent here increases the radius and the duration. With this, skipping packs of regular monsters (Howl won't work on Super Uniques and Bosses) becomes extremely easy, especially when it's maxed out (it synergizes with War Cry, so we want to max it out anyway - win-win).
  4. Shout [1/20] - An AoE Buff that improves the defense rating of you and your party. Having this active at all times will improve your survivability significantly.
  5. Taunt [20/20] - Taunts a monster, forcing it to close the distance and attack you in melee with highly reduced damage. This is especially useful against ranged enemies as it forces them to stop attacking and makes them come to you. Also, it synergizes with War Cry, so we want to max it out.
  6. Find Item [1/20] - Attempts to find a random item in a monster's corpse. You'd be surprised how much rare loot you can actually find with this. Even at level 1 with just a few additional skill points from gear, this is going to increase your gains significantly.
  7. Battle Cry [20/20] - A shout that lowers the defense and damage of all nearby enemies. This can be useful against packs of hard-hitting monsters, but we take it mainly for its War Cry synergy (each point in Battle Cry gives +6% Damage to our War Cry).
  8. Battle Orders [20/20] - Increases the max Life, Mana, and Stamina of you and your party. At level 20, this amazing Shout gives 107% extra Life, Mana, and Stamina while lasting for 4.5 minutes which is unbelievably good. Don't forget to refresh it!
  9. War Cry [20/20] - A powerful shout that stuns and damages all nearby enemies. This is the main offensive ability of this build; you'd be surprised how much Damage this actually deals when you build your whole character around it. To make War Cry as powerful as possible we max it and all its synergies out.
  10. Battle Command [1/20] - Increases all current skill levels for you and your party. With this, you can get +1 All Skills, which is great. Any subsequent points only increase the duration, so 1 hard point spent here is all you need. Also, you can get the uptime to just over a minute with only 5 soft points from gear, so refreshing this shouldn't inconvenience you too much.
COMBAT MASTERIES

This Skill Tree contains some great passives - we are going to take advantage of the "utility" ones, as weapon masteries are of not much use to us.

Skills:

  1. Increased Stamina [1/20] - Boosts your Stamina Recovery Rate and increases your maximum Stamina. You should never spend more than 1 point on Increased Stamina as it suffers from heavy diminishing returns.
  2. Iron Skin [1/20] - A passive skill that increases your overall Defense. At level one, it provides a 30% Bonus which is enough, especially if you have some soft points from gear.
  3. Increased Speed [1/20] - Increases your Run/Walk Speed. Just as Increased Stamina, this skill suffers from heavy diminishing returns - never spend more than 1 point on it.
  4. Natural Resistance [1/20] - A passive skill that increases your natural resistances to elemental and poison damage. Spending 1 point here is a good investment, especially if you have +Skills bonuses from gear.
COMBAT SKILLS

We're only interested in two Combat Skills. Mainly, Leap and Leap Attack, as they can provide a nice boost to our overall mobility. These are going to serve us well until we get an Enigma.

Skills:

  1. Leap [1/20] - Allows you to perform a long leap. Foes at your landing point are knocked back. With this, you're going to be able to jump over inaccessible terrains, like rivers and lava pools, and generally avoid combat if you want to.
  2. Leap Attack [1/20] - Very similar to the regular Leap, however, Leap Attack makes you leap at an enemy instead. Upon landing, you strike your Target and knock back all surrounding foes. This serves a similar purpose to Leap, but you can use it more offensively.

Items

With this build, you should focus your gear around two things - extra Magic Find that is going to make farming much more efficient, and +Skills which are going to help with clear speeds. Also, reaching 105% FCR Breakpoint is recommended for Enigma. Moreover, defensive stats, like Resistances and Faster Hit Recovery are quite welcome as well. Extra Health and Vitality will come in handy too, as they synergize with Battle Orders very well. Faster Run/Walk and extra Stamina/Stamina Regen are also very useful to have as they will boost your overall mobility.

HELMETS

Griswold's Valor (Corona) - When it comes to Magic Find, this is the all-in option. It gives you up to 30 MF and 2 sockets that can be fitted with Ist Runes or Perfect Topazes, or a combination of the two, for up to 70% total MF!

Griswold's Valor

Heart of the Oak (Runeword) - This Runeword is a perfect choice for the build. A 6-Socketed Weapon - If you really want to go all-in, you can take a Weapon with 6 open sockets and put 6 Ist Runes into it. Doing so would result in a Weapon boasting 180% Magic Find, but nothing else.

SHIELDS

Spirit Shield (Runeword) - This Runeword offers a great balance of offensive and defensive power. From it, you're going to get +2 to all Skills, a solid boost to Mana (which is very welcome as War Cry costs a lot of it), 55% Faster Hit Recovery - massive, and quite a few Resistances.

WEAPON SWAP

Magic Weapons with +3 to Warcries - As Call to Arms does not work on a Barbarian, dual-wielding Rare Weapons with bonuses to Warcries is the best way to strengthen your pre-buffing ability. A Rare Weapon with +2 to Barbarian Skills could work as well, but it won't be as effective.

Rare Weapon

You should have two of these on weapon swap for the best effect.

  • In Magic Weapons, Look for:
    • +3 to Warcries
  • In Rare Weapons, Look for:
    • +2 to Barbarian Skills

AMULETS

Mara's Kaleidoscope - This amazing Amulet provides a great combination of offensive (+2 to all skills) and defensive (+20-30 to all resistances) properties.

Mara's Kaleidoscope

  • Required Level: 67
    • +2 To All Skills
    • All Resistances +20-30 (varies)
    • +5 To All Attributes

A Magic/Rare Amulet with + Magic Find Affixes - Magic Amulets can have up to 50% MF while Rares can roll up to 35%. These are quite hard to get and will cost a small fortune, mind you.

    • Resistances
  • In Rare Amulets, look for:
    • Magic Find
    • + to Barbarian Skills
    • Resistances
    • Attributes

ARMORS

Enigma (Runeword) - This amazing Armor is literally perfect for this build. It's not only going to boost your Magic Find and Skills, but also take your mobility to a completely new level. Without it, a War Singer Barbarian is a mere shadow of itself.

Enigma

  • Defense: Depends on base Armor
  • Required Level: 65
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Armor
  • Durability: Depends on base Armor
  • Jah + Ith + Ber

    • 15% Damage Taken Goes To Mana
    • (1*Clvl)% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (Based On Character Level)

Skullder's Ire (Russet Armor) - This Unique armor is going to give you quite a lot of defense, some offensive utility with +1 to All Skills, and up to 125% Magic Find.

    • [1-123]% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (1.25% per Character Level)
    • Repairs 1 Durability in 5 Seconds
    • +60 Durability

Wealth (Runeword) - An interesting budget choice that's going to pay for itself very quickly. Sadly, all it does is boost your MF and Gold drops.

Wealth

  • Defense: Depends on base Armor
  • Required Level: 43
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Armor
  • Durability: Depends on base Armor
  • Lem + Ko + Tir

    • 100% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

RINGS

A Magic Ring with MF Affixes - Rings like this can have up to 50% MF, which is Best in Slot. Their price reflects their rarity, however...

Magic Ring

  • In Magic Rings, look for:
    • Magic Find

Nagelring - If you need some extra MF, but can't afford a Magic Ring with +50 MF, this might be a good alternative.

Nagelring

    • +[50-75] to Attack Rating (varies)
    • Magic Damage Taken Reduced by 3
    • Attacker Takes Damage of 3

  • Required Level: 29
    • +1 to All Skills
    • Increase Maximum Mana by 25%
    • Adds 1-12 Lightning Damage
    • +20 to Mana

  • +10 Defense

BOOTS

War Traveler (Battle Boots) - These boots are the only Magic Finding option you have for the slot. From them, you'll get up to 50% MF, unlimited running (thanks to slower stamina drain), and 25% Faster Run/Walk.

War Traveler

  • Defense: 120-139
  • Required Level: 42
  • Required Strength: 95
  • Kick Damage: 37-64
  • Durability: 48
    • +150-190% Enhanced Defense

    • +10 to Vitality
    • +10 to Strength

    • +40% Slower Stamina Drain
    • Attacker Takes Damage Of 5-10

    • Attacker Takes Damage of 2
    • Repairs 1 Durability in 20 Seconds

BELTS

Goldwrap (Heavy Belt) - When it comes to Magic Finding, this belt outshines all other choices for the slot - It gives 30% MF which is the highest of all belts.

Goldwrap

  • Defense: 34-36
  • Potion Slots: 12
  • Required Level: 27
  • Required Strength: 45
  • Durability: 18
    • +40-60% Enhanced Defense (varies)
    • +25 Defense
    • 10% Increased Attack Speed
    • 30% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items
    • 50-80% Extra Gold From Monsters (varies)
    • +2 To Light Radius

Arachnid Mesh (Spiderweb Sash) - 30% MF is not a lot, thus, you might be better of using this belt instead of the Goldwrap. It's going to give you +1 to All Skills, 20% FCR, and a little boost to your max mana, which is nice.

Arachnid Mesh

Defense: 119-138
Required Level: 80
Required Strength: 50
Durability: 12
16 Potion Boxes
  • +90-120% Enhanced Defense
  • Slows Target By 10%
  • +1 To All Skills
  • +20% Faster Cast Rate
  • Increases Maximum Mana 5%
  • Level 3 Venom (11 Charges)

CHARMS

  1. Gheed's Fortune -  The secret to Gheed's wealth and prosperity. Pretty much a must-have if you're after the best available charms. It adds 80-160% extra gold from monsters, reduces vendor prices by up to 15%, and gives up to 40% better magic find.
  2. Large Charms -  Using Large Charms in D2R is not recommended, with the exception of Hellfire Torch.
  3. Small Charms - With these, you should get as much Magic Find as you can. Small Charms give up to 7 MF each, so getting a full inventory of them is going to significantly boost your Magic Finding capabilities.

MERCENARY

We recommend picking up Act 2 Might Mercenary for extra damage bonuses. He should be equipped with:

  1. Insight Rune Word in Ethereal Spear - This provides a Meditation Aura that increases your Mana Recovery Rate which is extremely helpful as Enigma's Teleport and your War Cry can drain all of your mana very quickly.
  2. Fortitude Rune Word in Armor - This will ensure that your merc doesn't die (it will make him almost immortal).
  3. Andariel's Visage - An extremely solid and versatile headgear that will make your merc better in all respects.
