1. Introduction

Fighter is the most popular and the deadliest Melee class in Phantasy Star Online 2. It's the risk and reward type of character, which puts yourself in danger while unleashing its destructive force to obliterate enemies in a very close range. Paired up with Hunter to maximize your DPS it allows you to go Berserk mode by triggering Overload (Limit Break in JP version) and simply melt enemies. You utilize Fighter's Brave Stance as your primary damage multiplier and Hunter's Fury Stance to grant consistent damage bonus, and Iron Will/Stalwart Spirit/Auto-Mate Half to give you a reasonable chance to survive incoming Hits. Overall, if you are looking for a Melee build that will fast and hard, this is definitely a build for you.

Important note:  This build idea adopts a lot from the JP version of the game and may be slightly reworked as we get to do more thorough testing for the PC version. Nevertheless, it will provide a very solid base for beginners that want to delve down the path of the Fighter character and help you understand the basic principles of this class and playstyle

2. General Information and playstyle

When it comes to gameplay, Fighter is your typical close range Melee fighter which relies on deadly Crits and devastating Attack and Photon Arts combinations. The main idea behind this build is to trigger Overload (Limit Break) and go a real DPS rampage. You should benefit from Crazy Heart, Crazy Beat, Halfline Slayer, Chaser Damage, all at the same time offering simply massive damage bonuses. You also get extra % Damage from Fighter's Brave Stance and Hunter's Frenzy Stance which are both mandatory for this build. When you have Overload active, you need to make sure you don't get hit, or you will be easily one-shotted by bigger damage spikes. In general, this can be treated as a Glass Cannon build which relies on allies to assist you (revive you) while in combat, and for solo play, you want to practice dodging and evasion techniques.

3. Build's PROS & CONS

PROS
  • Very high sustained damage
  • One of the best bursts in the game
  • Best Melee DPS in PSO2
  • Several life-saving skills offered by the Hunter Tree
  • Versatility
  • Good mobility
CONS
  • Reliant on Dodge/Parry/Iron Will rolls when it comes to staying alive
  • Hard to find a more Glass Cannon type of character in PSO2

4. Skill Trees

Our recommended setup was made for a level 75 Characters (the current cap on the English/North American server) with Fighter main class and Hunter sub-class. Because of the lower amount of points available to spend, you should spend just one Point each into Crazy Heart and Crazy Beat . The distribution of Points into Iron Will, Stalwart Spirit, and Automate Half should be adjusted to your personal preference. If you plan to play solely in teams, you may skip them entirely and get some extra Damage via Melee Power-Ups for example.

MAIN CLASS: FIGHTER
Core Skills:
Brave Stance Brave Stance - recommended Fighter's Stance which is your primary damage multiplier from this Skill Tree. It's mandatory
Overload Overload - presumably the most distinctive Fighter's ability. It allows you to go on a rampage, reducing your HP but greatly increasing damage for a duration. Upgrading it above level 5 is optional as it no longer provides extra damage beyond that point
Crazy Heart Crazy Heart - increases your PP Regeneration following an attack making it one of the best Utility skills for this build. It's triggered automatically
Crazy Beat Crazy Beat - grants insane bonus damage and triggers when you Overload
Tech Arts Perfect Attack Bonus Tech Arts Perfect Attack Bonus - increases the damage you deal with Techniques and Photon Arts. Mandatory Passive for this build. You also go to pick up the linked Combo Var. P. Attack PP Save for reduced PP consumption
Critical Strike Critical Strike - Fighter is the only class that increases your Critical Damage so obviously you want to have it maxed out
Chaser Damage Chaser Damage and Extra Chaser Damage are two connected Passives that increase your DPS against enemies affected by status ailments
SUB-CLASS: HUNTER
Core Skills:
Perfect Attack Bonus Perfect Attack Bonus - increases your Attack Potency by a percentage value making it much more desirable than flat added Melee Damage from Fighter's skills
Fury Stance Fury Stance - the recommended Stance for this build. It grants high bonus damage to both Attacks and Ranged skills, making it one of the most popular and well-rounded Stances in PSO2. It's mandatory to pick all adjacent Skills including Critical Fury, Perfect Fury Bonus, Fury Stance Up, etc.
Hunter Physique Hunter Physique - a great defensive/utility skill which offers solid damage mitigation for your character and prevents you from getting knocked back or launched into the air
Iron Will Iron Will - gives you a chance to stay alive whenever you take lethal damage. It's pretty much a must-have for this Glass Cannon type of character. The number of points distributed between Iron Will, Stalwart Spirit and Auto-mate Half should be made according to your personal preferences and current activities (the latter for example appears to be the most efficient for Solo play)
Auto-Mate Half Auto-Mate Half - a great utility Skill which will save your life countless times. It automatically triggers "mate" Items whenever your HP falls below 50%

Niren Kamui
The ideal Twin Daggers for this Fighter/Hunter build would be Niren Kamui but it's not mandatory.
