Skelemancer Necromancer PD2 Build

Skelemancer Necromancer PD2 Build

A very powerful Minion/Summoner build for the Necromancer Class in Project Diablo 2

Skelemancer
Summon Necromancer Build

Updated for Season 4

Build Overview

Let's face it, Summon Necromancers are the real Necromancers, and sending an undead army to fight your battles while you chill out (and get bored) in the back is the true Necro way. All jokes aside, Necromancer's Summoning Spells Skill Tree is one of the strongest in the game and it lets you build a plethora of different builds. For this one, we focus on Skeletons. While they might look brittle at first glance (just like Druid's Wolves), they are actually very durable and extremely dependable - once you summon them, you don't have much to do, except casting Amplify Damage and relocating, as they simply won't die (they will, occasionally, but you get the point).

This version of the pSkelemancer Necro Build is fully capable of solo clearing high-end content without putting too much effort into it - your Skeletons will take care of pretty much everything. The build offers a very safe and chill experience which makes it great for those of you who need a break from the always-on-the-edge exciting builds. It also offers very good mobility with Vigor merc and Blood Warp so its clear speeds are solid. If you're looking for a low-effort, cheap to gear up (you can run this build on a budget, no problem) farming build, it should meet your requirements.

Great Survivability   Quite boring to play after a while
 Solid Mobility
Can Clear any type of PD2 content

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - All you want, in terms of Strength, is enough of it to equip everything you will want to use on your character.
  2. Dexterity - Get enough Dex for your gear unless you can achieve max block by spending some more points on it (this will mostly depend on your gear, however).
  3. Vitality - You should put all your remaining points here - main stat.
  4. Energy - Adding points to Energy is an extreme waste - don't do it.
SUMMONING SPELLS

This is the core Skill Tree of this Build. This Skill Tree will let you create your own undead army that will obey your every command (especially after the recent AI improvements).

Skills:

  1. Raise Skeleton Warrior [20/20] - Rises a Skeleton Warrior to fight for you, from a corpse of a fallen enemy. These are the "vanilla' Skeletons that will fight monsters in melee, making enemies less likely to damage you. At first, Skeleton Warriors might seem brittle, but they scale extremely well with Skill Points - On a well-geared leveled-up character, they can soak up unbelievable amounts of damage (even Ubers have problems with them...). When it comes to dealing damage, they are less reliable than Archers and will sometimes get stuck, but you can rally them with Blood Warp. Max this out.
  2. Skeleton Mastery [20/20] - A passive skill that increases the Damage, Life, and Velocity of your raised Skeletons. Also, Raise Skeleton Warrior and Raise Skeleton Archer synergize with this Skill, receiving +8% Skeleton Damage per level. Thanks to Skeleton Mastery, your Army will get stronger, tougher, and faster - max it out.
  3. Raise Skeletal Mage [X/20] - Rises a Skeleton Mage to fight for you, from a corpse of a fallen enemy. Skeleton Mages deal either Poison, Lightning, Cold, or Fire Damage from a distance. You can have up to 8 Skeleton Mages at your side (from 18 hard points invested). While this skill was buffed in season 4 (100% hitbox size increase for missiles and a damage buff), it does not benefit from Amplify Damage which makes it the weakest (by far) of the three skeleton-summoning skills. Nevertheless, Skeleton Mages will boost your single-target damage and thus you should spend all your remaining points here.
  4. Blood Warp [X/20] - Necromancer's equivalent of Sorceress' Teleport. It has a mana cost of 10 and will drain 12% of our current HP each cast. Additional Points only reduce its Cooldown. This Skill is essential for the build's mobility - being able to teleport out of trouble is unbelievably strong. Moreover, all your summons teleport with you, so you can easily rally them with this. Blood Warp's Cooldown decreases with every subsequent Skill Point - if you have enough soft points from gear, spending a single point on it is generally enough (if you use Enigma, you might want to skip this entirely).
  5. Raise Skeletal Archer [20/20] - Rises a Skeleton Archer to fight for you, from a corpse of a fallen enemy. This is the recent addition to Bonemancer's kit (it was added to PD2 in season 4). Skeleton Archers deal Physical Damage from a distance which makes them very powerful - they not only engage enemies faster than Warriors but they also benefit from Amplify Damage. You can have up to 8 Skeleton Archers at your side (from 18 hard points invested). This is one of your main summoning abilities - you should max it out.

CURSES

This build utilizes Curses to break the enemy's physical resistance. With maxed-out Amplify Damage and Curse Mastery, you can lower enemy physical res by 75%. The rest of the Curses is not really worth spending any additional points on, but you can do it if you like their effects.

Skills:

  1. Amplify Damage [20/20] - A Curse that lowers the monster's physical resistances making it take more damage from physical attacks. Skeletons and Skeleton Archers deal physical damage and will greatly benefit from this. Sadly, Skeletal Mages don't scale with this at all which makes them fall behind quite substantially. Maxing this massively increases the build's offensive power and makes it much stronger against enemies with physical resistance. Also, this is handy to have while playing in a group with physical damage dealers.
  2. Life Tap [1/20] - Optional. Prerequisite. Curses a group of monsters so that damaging them gives the attacker life.
  3. Weaken [1/20] - Optional. A Curse that makes groups of enemies deal much less Damage which is life-saving, to say the least. If you need some additional survivability, you can spend 1 point here.
POISON AND BONE SPELLS

This skill tree is not the focus of this build and all the skill points are needed elsewhere, but we can afford to invest 2 points to get Bone Armor.

Skills:

  1. Teeth [1/20] - Prerequisite. Fires a barrage of summoned barbed teeth that damage any enemy they hit.
  2. Bone Armor [1/20] - Surrounds the caster with a protective shield that absorbs incoming damage. This will give you that little extra bit of survivability; well-worth 2 total points.

Items

As per usual with PD2 Builds, you want to get as many Skill Levels (Necromancer/Summoning Spells in this case) as possible to increase the build's overall power level. Resistances are also important, but they should never come before the offensive power. A faster cast rate is nice to have, but not nearly as essential as with other types of necro builds. Defensive stats, like faster hit recovery and life on each kill, are a nice addition but you should not choose gear for them specifically.

HELMETS

Steel Shade (Armet) - This Helmet is a surprisingly solid option for the build as you will be using a shield (or an off-hand that works like a shield). It provides +2 to All Skills, a 30% Faster Cast Rate, and offers a solid defensive boost on top (with 20% better blocking and 30% faster block rate). Moreover, it has high fire absorb which makes it great for certain bosses.

  4. Grand Charms - These should have +Summoning Spells (mandatory) and +Life/+Faster Run/Walk Speed.
  5. Small Charms - With these, you should get your desired Resistances, bonuses to Life, or bonuses to Magic Find - whatever suits your needs, basically.

MERCENARY

We recommend picking up Act 1 Vigor Mercenary for extra mobility (Vigor Aura makes your Golems Much faster, which is EXTREMELY important) that helps with clear speeds by a lot, and for the ability to use a Bow with a chance to cast Amplify Damage. She should be equipped with:

  1. Witchwild String - An exceptional Short Siege Bow that has a 10% chance to cast level 16 Amplify Damage on Striking. The other option is a Bow with "Wrath" Runeword in it. This greatly increases the damage of all your minions and break almost all physical immunities.
  2. Templar's Might - Provides Might Aura for some extra damage.
  3. Steelrend Gloves - For massive damage bonus and Crushing Blow.
  4. Vampire's Gaze - For high Life Leech and damage reduction.
  5. Nosferatu's Coil - For Life Leech and Deadly Strike.
  6. Gore Rider Boots - For Deadly Strike and Crushing Blow greatly boosting the merc's DPS.
