PvE Tier List - AION 2 Guide

PvE Tier List - AION 2 Guide

Which AION 2 classes are strongest in PvE? Our Global tier list ranks all eight classes by damage, utility, uptime, and group value.

PvE Tier List
AION 2

Last Update: October 8, 2026

Introduction

AION 2's first Global PvE meta is finally producing enough real combat data to separate launch speculation from what players are actually doing in dungeons. The picture is more balanced than many pre-release tier lists suggested, but the classes are not interchangeable. Ranged uptime is proving extremely valuable, Chanter contributes far more than a buff bar, and the two traditional party roles remain very difficult to replace when content becomes demanding.

This tier list ranks all eight Global launch classes for group PvE: Conquest, Transcendence, dungeon progression, and the type of coordinated endgame play that will eventually lead into Sanctuary raids. The ranking considers practical boss damage, AoE, uptime, survivability, party utility, and how easy it is to justify a class slot in a five-player group.

It is intentionally not a training-dummy DPS list. Templar and Cleric would look terrible if judged only by personal damage, while a melee DPS can look excellent on a stationary target and lose a large part of that advantage as soon as a boss starts moving. Current Global logs already show how large that difference can be.

Launch-week ranking: Global launched on October 5, so this list uses the current Global client and early Global combat logs, with Korea/Taiwan data used only as secondary context. The regional versions are further ahead and should not be copied one-to-one.

How We Rank PvE Classes

A class earns a high tier by making a real dungeon group better, not by winning one isolated damage test. Pure DPS classes are judged heavily on practical damage and uptime. Tanks, healers, and supports are judged on the value they add while still contributing meaningful damage of their own.

Boss Performance
Single-target damage matters most once progression reaches bosses that live long enough for rotations, cooldowns, and positioning to matter.
Real Uptime
Range, mobility, positional requirements, and forced movement can change the result dramatically compared with a stationary parse.
Party Utility
Healing, tanking, shields, cooldown support, cleanses, and party damage effects all count toward a class's value.
General PvE
AoE and trash clear matter too. A class built almost entirely around single-target damage loses some points in a broad dungeon ranking.
How to read the tiers: S Tier classes are the easiest slots to justify in serious group PvE. A Tier classes are strong and useful but have more direct competition. B Tier remains fully viable; it means the class currently has a narrower advantage or asks more from the player to produce the same overall dungeon value.

S Tier

Chanter

Chanter - Support / Melee Damage

Chanter is the standout all-rounder of early Global PvE. It brings permanent party support, short-cooldown healing and cleansing, strong melee contribution, and Power of the Storm for an additional burst window. Current Global logs are especially flattering: Chanter sits at the top of the all-content Combat Power-adjusted index while still being measured during party fights where it is also healing.

There is one important caveat. Undefeated Mantra and Cleric's Light of Protection cover the same headline PvE damage/tolerance buff and do not stack, so bringing both classes does not mean duplicating every benefit. Chanter still offers enough extra support and personal output that coordinated parties have little trouble finding a useful Stigma setup.

Sorcerer

Sorcerer - Ranged Magic DPS

Sorcerer is the strongest pure-damage recommendation in the current Global environment. It has excellent ranged uptime, a large AoE toolkit, and powerful cooldown windows built around Hellfire, Firestorm, Fire Mark, and its Stigmas. In current Global all-content logs, Sorcerer is one of the clearest damage standouts, and it performs particularly well in common launch dungeons such as Urugugu Canyon.

Its weakness is straightforward: Sorcerer brings damage, not a party role. It is also fragile and loses efficiency if cooldowns or MP management become sloppy. When played well, though, range lets it keep casting through mechanics that force melee classes to stop attacking, and that advantage is showing up repeatedly in practical PvE.

Templar

Templar - Main Tank

Templar remains the cleanest main-tank choice. It combines reliable Enmity tools with Block-based mitigation, party shields, damage sharing, and defensive Stigmas such as Battlefield Banner and Doom Shield. Global logs also show respectable damage for a tank, which makes the class easier to justify even before survivability becomes the main concern.

The class becomes more valuable as encounters become less forgiving. Gladiator can tank portions of the current dungeon ladder, but Templar has the more complete toolkit for protecting a party through progression mechanics. If your group wants consistency before speed, this is the obvious front line.

Cleric

Cleric - Primary Healer

Cleric earns S Tier for a different reason: it is the only pure healer in the Global roster. Healing Light, party sustain, defensive support, cleanse options, and Summon Resurrection give difficult groups a safety net that no DPS class can imitate. Personal damage naturally falls behind because the Cleric is spending time keeping other players alive.

Easy farm content can sometimes get away with lighter healing, which is why Cleric does not feel mandatory in every speed run. As soon as mechanics or incoming damage become serious, its value rises sharply. For progression groups, a good Cleric often saves more time than replacing the healer with another damage dealer ever could.

A Tier

Spiritmaster

Spiritmaster - Ranged Summoner DPS

Spiritmaster is one of the hardest classes to rank from outside data because its pets complicate damage attribution. Even with that limitation, the class performs very well across Global dungeon samples.

Its strengths are steady ranged uptime, damage-over-time pressure, and a rotation that keeps working while many melee classes are repositioning. The reason it stops at A Tier here is group utility: several older KR discussions describe stronger party synergy than the current Global client actually provides. On Global, much of Spiritmaster's amplification benefits its own spirits, so its slot competes more directly with other damage dealers.

Assassin

Assassin - Melee Single-Target DPS

Assassin has the most controversial placement on this list. On a stationary target, or in later Korean endgame data, the class can look outstanding. Its kit has huge single-target potential through Critical Hit chains, Heart Gore, Insignia Explosion, and strong back-attack bonuses. A skilled Assassin with clean uptime can absolutely outperform this letter.

The current Global picture is more favorable than the earliest launch samples suggested. Assassin can post excellent single-target results when it maintains the boss's back and keeps its burst cycle intact. It still loses more than ranged classes when mechanics break positioning and remains one of the weaker options for broad AoE clearing, which keeps it below S Tier in an all-purpose PvE ranking.

In organized boss groups, a skilled Assassin can already perform above its overall A Tier label. The placement reflects mixed dungeon value, not a low single-target ceiling.

Ranger

Ranger - Ranged Physical DPS

Ranger is one of the safest damage picks for progression. It attacks from range, keeps good uptime during movement-heavy mechanics, has useful AoE, and its core rotation is easier to maintain than the more timing-heavy Sorcerer setup. That reliability has made Ranger the most represented class among players.

The trade-off is ceiling. Current Global data generally places Ranger around the middle of the damage field once Combat Power and boss are accounted for. It rarely looks embarrassing and rarely needs special treatment from the party, but it does not currently produce the same headline numbers as Sorcerer. For players who value consistency over a more demanding burst cycle, that is a very fair exchange.

B Tier

Gladiator

Gladiator - Melee DPS / Off-Tank

Gladiator trades some pure damage efficiency for flexibility. It has strong AoE, high durability, self-sustain, and enough Enmity and defensive tools to cover as an off-tank or handle easier encounters without a dedicated Templar. Experienced Counterstrike also gives the party PvE Damage Boost when its Block condition is met.

Its main problem is efficiency in a dedicated group slot. The class looks good when it can stay on a target and its AoE is useful on packs, but current Global boss data does not support placing it above the stronger dedicated DPS options. Gladiator remains sturdy, flexible, and capable of covering easier tank duties; B Tier reflects lower group damage efficiency, not poor playability.

B Tier does not mean weak. Gladiator can clear the current dungeon ladder and remains one of the most forgiving melee classes. The placement reflects current group efficiency and boss damage compared with the stronger specialists above it.

What Current Global Logs Are Actually Showing

The early Global logs are useful because they already include thousands of characters and large numbers of uploaded boss kills. They also need to be read carefully. The sites balance index compares a character with the uploader field on the same boss and similar Combat Power; 100 is the reference field, not an average DPS number.

Across current Global content, Chanter and Sorcerer are among the clearest practical standouts, while Spiritmaster also performs very well in ranged encounters. Assassin is more volatile: its boss ceiling can be excellent, but the class loses more value when mechanics interrupt back uptime or when the run emphasizes multi-target clearing. Ranger remains consistent across a wide range of encounters. Gladiator trails the stronger dedicated DPS choices in current boss performance, although its durability, AoE, and off-tank flexibility still give it a useful niche. Cleric naturally sits lower in personal damage because the same sample is recording a character whose first job is keeping the party alive.

Do not turn the index into a fake DPS chart. Only successful kills are uploaded, party members without the meter are not measured the same way, and pet damage can be undercounted.  The logs support the tier list, but they do not replace encounter context.

This also explains why some pre-launch tier lists now look strange. Dummy tests favored classes that could maintain perfect uptime, while KR/TW lists often used balance patches Global does not have. The first few days of actual Global group content are giving us a much better baseline.

Final Thoughts

The useful lesson from the first Global PvE data is that AION 2 rewards complete party value more than a single damage number. Chanter, Cleric, and Templar remain excellent because they solve jobs the party actually needs. Sorcerer currently has the strongest pure-DPS case, while Spiritmaster, Assassin, and Ranger reach A Tier through very different strengths.

Assassin deserves more respect than the first launch-week samples suggested: its single-target ceiling is already strong, although positional requirements and weaker AoE prevent it from becoming the safest general recommendation. Gladiator sits lower in the current group ranking, but its durability, pack clearing, and off-tank potential still make it useful in everyday PvE.

Most importantly, there is no dead PvE class in the launch roster. A strong player on an A or B Tier class is still more useful than a poorly played S Tier character. Use the ranking to understand what each class brings to a group, then build around the players who can actually deliver it.
