Cold Arrow Amazon Build Guide for PD2
One of the fastest Setups for the Amazon Class that uses powerful Cold Arrow to defeat hordes of enemies with easeCold Arrow Amazon Build
Last Update: May 19, 2026
Introduction
The Cold Arrow is a very simple skill that fires multiple cold-infused arrows or bolts in a cone, empowered by added Cold Damage to your attacks based on the level of your Skill. It uses only half of your Weapon Damage, so it is a better idea to rely on high Skill levels to gain tons of Cold Damage instead. They cover a massive area, especially once you acquire the Frozen Sorrow, which adds 4 more projectiles. This Skill received a massive Buff in the initial launch of the Project Diablo 2, leading to multiple adjustments in the future updates aiming to tone it down, but it is still much stronger than the original version. For this reason, this archetype doesn't work that well on a low budget. On the other hand, it becomes one of the best Builds you can choose for fast Clear Speed once you acquire some necessary Items.
The Cold Arrow scales slightly less effectively with additional levels than its fiery counterpart, the Fire Arrow, but cold archetype builds can use multiple very powerful Items that easily offset that difference, such as Snowclash or Nightwing's Veil. This combo also makes you immune to Freeze. The Amazon is infamous for its rather poor defensive capabilities. You will have low damage mitigation, but great avoidance and movement speed. Freezing Enemies is a very impactful advantage to help with that. Your insane Movement Speed is also your only form of travel, although you can use Naj's Puzzler occasionally in your weapon swap for the Blink Skill to cross terrain gaps. The Cold Damage of your Arrow is not suitable for proper Life or Mana Steal, so you will have to rely on Mana and Life on each Kill modifiers for your sustain. You will also need a bit of projectile Pierce Chance, although it is not very important, as you will cover the entire battlefield with your icy arrows anyway.
Recommended Breakpoints
The amount of Increased Attack Speed you need varies greatly depending on the weapon of choice.
- Increased Attack Speed (Pus Spitter): 99% (low budget) → 152% (high investments)
- Increased Attack Speed (Ice Runeword): 8%
- Faster Hit Recovery (FHR): 52% (good enough for most content)
The Ice Runeword allows you to pick the fastest base in the game, which saves you tons of investment into Attack Speed.
Stat Allocation
- Strength: Enough to meet gear attribute requirements
- Dexterity: Enough to meet gear attribute requirements and cap Attack Rating
- Vitality: Invest all
- Energy: Nothing
Vitality is your top priority. Dexterity grants a very small amount of Damage for Crossbows, but it is not worth the investment.
Pros
- Great AoE Coverage
- Potent Damage scaling
- Great mobility
- Flexible gearing
Cons
- Poor defense
- Expensive gear

Skill Trees

The early progression with Bows is possible, but significantly slower and more gear-dependent than Amazon's other options. For the leveling purposes and early-season progress, we recommend following our Summon Amazon PD2 Build.
Your only important active Skill is the Cold Arrow and its synergies, which are Magic Arrow and Ice Arrow. At first, Ice Arrow deals significantly more Damage than Cold Arrow, so it can be used to deal with tough opponents. At higher Skill levels, their DPS becomes very similar, but you can still utilise it as a great Crowd Control option.
For the Passive and Magic Skills, you will want Pierce maxed out as soon as possible to greatly improve your AoE Coverage. You can get a lot of Attack Rating by spending a single point on the Penetrate. The Evade and Dodge are your remaining options. You can split your Points equally, but prioritising Evade is the more popular choice due to the passive Movement Speed bonus it grants.
Gear
The Frozen Sorrow Bolts are insanely good for this Build, but it also locks you to Crossbows only. Within that limit, there are two worthy contenders: the Pus Spitter Crossbow that triggers level 35 Lower Resist on Striking and adds 3 Skill levels, but requires a lot of Increased Attack Speed on your remaining gear, or the Ice Runeword made on the Demon Crossbow, which improves your Cold Damage, Pierce, grants plenty of Cold Damage via Holy Freeze Aura, and requires no other IAS on your gear, saving you a lot of effort.
Projectile Pierce greatly improves your Clear Speed, although you will get a lot of it from the Skill Tree. You can equip the Treads of Cthon Boots to get even more Pierce, although the Merman's Sprocket Boots are also a very good choice due to massive Movement Speed and added Cold Damage. You can also get Pierce as a corruption bonus on Gloves, Belt, or Amulet.
The Cold archetype can enjoy the extremely powerful Snowclash and Nightwing's Veil combo to massively improve Damage. You won't find a better setup than this across other Rare or Unique Items. The Valkyrie Wing can be used to improve your Run Speed if your DPS is already satisfying.
There are plenty of Body Armours you can pick. Your goals there are additional Skill levels, but also solid defense. The best Uniques to pick are Guardian Angel, Steel Carapace, or Arkaine's Valor. The Silks of the Victor or Enigma are also a solid option if you want even more mobility.
The Frostburn is a decent early option. It is a rather cheap pair of Gloves, so you should aim for useful Corruption, such as the Pierce Chance. Later on, you should replace them with Magic Gloves that grant 3 Skill Levels.
The jewelry choices are very limited. The Mara's Kaleidoscope with Pierce Corruption is the main goal, but you should also consider the Crescent Moon for Life and Mana Steal, or the Cat's Eye for Pierce and Run Speed. The Ring choice is also narrow: you can pick the Bul-Kathos Wedding Band for bonus Life, or the Wisp Projector for Magic Find and Attack Rating.
Charms
You need to reach level 40 of your Cold Arrow to unlock all 12 additional fired arrows. To reach that goal, use Grand Skiller Charms. At that point, Large Charms that grant 3% Cold Damage might be more valuable to you. The most important secondary modifier is faster Run Speed, followed by Life and Capping your Resistance.
You should also include the usual combination: Gheed's Fortune, Hellfire Torch, and Annihilus. You will want this combo for every Build in the game.
Mercenary
The recommended endgame setup involves Act 2 Defiance Mercenary wielding Infinity Runeword to lower enemy' Resistance and improve your Defense. You can also opt for the much cheaper Act 1 Mercenary with the Vigor Aura to greatly improve your Run Speed even more. Equip them with the Pus Spitter Weapon to break their Resistance. Remaining Gear should contribute towards Mercenary's survivability.
- Vampire Gaze or Andariel's Visage or Ferocity (Helmet)
- String of Ears or Nosferatu’s Coil (belt)
- Shaftstop or Innocence (Armour)
- Lava Gout's or Dracul Grasp (gloves)
- Rare Boots with Life, Movement Speed, and Resistance
Final Thoughts
The Cold Arrow Amazon is a very universal and powerful Character easily capable of conquering every aspect of the game Project Diablo 2 has to offer. It starts slowly, but it greatly rewards your effort and investments.
