Skill Trees

The recommended leveling path for the Phoenix Strike Assassin is very natural, as the Build gradually adds new elemental attacks that remain relevant all the way into the endgame. During the early levels, Fists of Fire provides reliable Fire Damage and works well against tightly packed groups. Once Claws of Thunder becomes available, your clear speed improves significantly thanks to its strong Lightning coverage, while Blades of Ice adds useful Cold Damage and Crowd Control. As soon as Phoenix Strike is unlocked, it becomes your main offensive Skill and starts combining all three elements into a single attack rotation.

As you continue leveling, focus on maxing Phoenix Strike, Fists of Fire, Claws of Thunder, and Blades of Ice, as these four Skills form the core of the final Build. Burst of Speed should be taken early to improve both Movement Speed and Attack Speed, while Weapon Block becomes an important defensive tool once you start using dual Claws. Dragon Flight provides convenient mobility and lets you quickly engage new packs, while Cloak of Shadows and Mind Blast can be added for additional safety when progressing through more dangerous areas.

Any remaining Skill Points can be spent depending on what your final setup is missing. Claw and Dagger Mastery is usually the best place to invest extra Points if your Attack Rating is still too low, while additional Points in Burst of Speed can help reach a faster Attack Speed breakpoint. If both of those are already comfortable, Weapon Block is another strong option for improving survivability in melee.

Gear

Bartuc's Cut-Throat is one of the strongest and most reliable Weapons for the Phoenix Strike Assassin. Its fast base, additional Assassin and Martial Arts Skill Levels, Attack Rating, Attributes, Faster Hit Recovery, and Life Leech provide nearly everything the Build needs in a single item. A well-corrupted Bartuc with additional Skill Levels or sockets can remain competitive even in heavily optimized setups. The absolute highest-end option is a powerful Crafted or Rare Claw with +Assassin Skills, additional levels to Phoenix Strike, Increased Attack Speed, sockets, and useful offensive modifiers. Stalker's Cull can also be considered when you value smoother Dragon Flight usage and additional utility.

The off-hand depends heavily on whether you prefer Damage or survivability. A second Bartuc's Cut-Throat is one of the best choices for a dual-Claw setup, providing more Skill Levels and allowing you to benefit from Weapon Block. Jade Talon is a more defensive alternative with additional Martial Arts and Shadow Discipline Skills, Faster Hit Recovery, Mana Leech, and strong Resistances. If you prefer a Shield setup, Stormshield remains one of the safest choices thanks to its excellent Physical Damage Reduction and blocking, making it particularly effective for aggressive Mapping.

Kira's Guardian is one of the best Helmets for the Build, especially when combined with a high-damage setup that needs help covering Resistances. Faster Hit Recovery and strong elemental defenses make it exceptionally efficient, while good corruptions and sockets can significantly increase its offensive value. Harlequin Crest is a more balanced alternative with additional Skills, Life, Mana, and Damage Reduction, while a strong Rare or Magic Circlet with +Assassin or +Martial Arts Skills, Attack Rating, Resistances, and useful sockets can also be extremely competitive.

For Body Armour, Steel Carapace is one of the strongest defensive choices, providing additional Skill Levels, very high Defense, and Faster Hit Recovery. It works especially well with a Shield setup focused on survivability. Arkaine's Valor is another excellent option with Skills, Vitality, and defensive bonuses, while Chains of Honor provides a very strong combination of Skill Levels, Resistances, and Life Leech. Stone remains a surprisingly effective and inexpensive alternative for progression thanks to its enormous Defense and Faster Hit Recovery.

For Gloves, Rare or Crafted Martial Arts Gloves are generally the best option. Look for +2 or +3 to Martial Arts, Increased Attack Speed, Attack Rating, Life or Mana Leech, and Resistances. Reaching your preferred Attack Speed breakpoint is extremely important, so IAS on Gloves can free up your Weapon corruption or sockets for more offensive modifiers. Dracul's Grasp is another strong choice if you want additional sustain and physical utility.

For the Belt, Verdungo's Hearty Cord is one of the safest all-around choices, providing Faster Hit Recovery, a large amount of Vitality, and Physical Damage Reduction. String of Ears is another excellent defensive option with Life Leech and Damage Reduction, which works particularly well because Phoenix Strike still relies on its physical hits for sustain. Arachnid Mesh can be used in a more offensive setup when you want another Skill Level, although its Faster Cast Rate provides little value to this Build.

Waterwalk is one of the best all-around Boots for the Build, providing Faster Run/Walk, Life, Dexterity, and Faster Block Rate, making it especially attractive for Shield setups. Sandstorm Trek is another strong choice when you need Faster Hit Recovery, Attributes, and Poison Resistance. High-quality Rare Boots with Movement Speed, FHR, and multiple Resistances can easily outperform Unique options if they cover several missing defensive stats at once.

For the Amulet, Mara's Kaleidoscope remains one of the most reliable choices thanks to additional Skill Levels, Attributes, and Resistances. A strong Rare or Crafted Assassin Amulet can be even better if it combines +2 Assassin Skills with Attack Rating, Life, Attributes, Resistances, or other useful modifiers. A Magic +3 Martial Arts Amulet is a simple but very effective offensive alternative when survivability is already covered elsewhere.

Your Rings should help solve Attack Rating and sustain before anything else. Raven Frost is particularly valuable because it combines Cannot Be Frozen with a large amount of flat Attack Rating and Dexterity.  Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band remains a strong general-purpose alternative with another Skill Level and Life, while high-end Rare Rings with flat Attack Rating, Life or Mana Leech, Attributes, and Resistances can be extremely effective.

Charms

Charms for the Phoenix Strike Assassin should primarily increase your Martial Arts Skill Levels while helping with Attack Rating and survivability. An Assassin Hellfire Torch and Annihilus provide valuable Skills, Attributes, and Resistances, while Martial Arts Skill Grand Charms are the most effective way to increase the Damage of Phoenix Strike and all of its elemental Synergies at once. Grand Charms with additional Life or Faster Hit Recovery are particularly valuable for endgame setups.

Fill the remaining inventory with Small Charms providing Life, Attack Rating, Resistances, or Faster Hit Recovery depending on what your equipment is missing. Attack Rating deserves particular attention, as every missed attack interrupts your elemental rotation and prevents Life and Mana Leech from triggering. Once your Accuracy, Resistances, and FHR are comfortable, additional Life should become your main priority.

Mercenary

The recommended endgame option is an Act 2 Blessed Aim Mercenary equipped with Infinity. Conviction reduces enemy Fire, Lightning, and Cold Resistances simultaneously, greatly improving every stage of Phoenix Strike, while Blessed Aim helps solve one of the Build's biggest weaknesses by substantially improving your Attack Rating. This combination provides both a major Damage increase and noticeably smoother gameplay.
An Act 2 Blessed Aim Mercenary with Stormspire is another useful intermediate option, especially when Attack Rating remains a problem. Reaper's Toll can also be used to improve physical sustain and make enemies easier to hit before Infinity becomes available.
