Strafe Amazon Build Guide for PD2
Strafe Amazon combines automatic targeting, Pierce, and heavy physical scaling into one of PD2’s most satisfying ranged Builds.Strafe Amazon Build
Last Update: September 24, 2026
Introduction
Strafe Amazon turns the Bowazon into a rapid-fire physical Damage platform, releasing tightly packed volleys that automatically seek out nearby enemies and keep pressure on multiple targets at once. The Skill becomes especially effective once high Pierce, strong Weapon Damage, and the correct attack breakpoint come together, allowing each Strafe cycle to send arrows through entire lines of enemies while you reposition for the next volley. In dense Maps, this creates a very fluid rhythm where positioning, attack speed, and projectile overlap matter just as much as raw Damage.
The Build can be developed in several directions, from a traditional high-Damage physical Bowazon to more specialized variants built around Demon Machine, additional projectile procs, or Open Wounds support. Regardless of the exact setup, Strafe remains defined by excellent ranged coverage, automatic targeting, and strong scaling from physical Bow gear. Its performance depends heavily on reaching the right attack speed breakpoint and using a powerful Weapon, but once those pieces are in place, it becomes a highly satisfying Mapping Build with a distinctly mechanical, machine-gun-like playstyle.
Recommended Breakpoints
- Faster Hit Recovery (FHR): 32% is a comfortable baseline, while 52% is a nice target
- Attack Speed (IAS): Strafe has its own breakpoint structure, so IAS must be calculated for the exact Bow or Crossbow base. A common endgame goal is 8/2 with Bows or 11/2 with Crossbows, depending on the Weapon and Fanaticism support
- Attack Rating: Keep your hit chance consistently high. Penetrate provides a large AR boost, but physical Strafe still benefits heavily from additional AR on gear, Charms, and Dexterity
Stat Allocation
- Strength: Enough to meet gear attribute requirements
- Dexterity: Invest heavily after meeting Strength requirements
- Vitality: Enough to maintain a comfortable Life pool
- Energy: Nothing
Unlike most melee Builds, Dexterity is an offensive stat here, since it increases Bow Damage while also improving Attack Rating. For that reason, physical Strafe Amazons should invest much more heavily into Dexterity than a standard Vitality-based character. The exact split depends on Softcore versus Hardcore and how comfortable you are with your Life pool, but after gear requirements are covered, Dexterity should receive a substantial portion of your remaining Points.
Pros
- Excellent single-target and focused pack Damage
- Automatic targeting makes Strafe very comfortable to play
- Can trigger effects such as Amplify Damage very reliably
- Can be adapted for Mapping, Ubers, and specialized Open Wounds setups
Cons
- Less screen-wide coverage than Multishot
- Performance drops noticeably in higher player-count games compared with solo Mapping

Skill Trees

The Strafe Amazon is easiest to level by using the Bow tree from early on, but the Build does not fully come together until Strafe, Penetrate, and enough Pierce are established. Early progression is usually smoother with a simpler Bow attack while you build toward the final setup, then Strafe gradually takes over once it gains enough Skill Levels and your Weapon starts providing meaningful physical Damage.
After transitioning into the final Build, prioritize Strafe and Penetrate first. Strafe is your main attack, while Penetrate provides both Attack Rating and a direct Damage synergy, making it one of the most efficient Skills in the tree. Critical Strike should be developed alongside them, while Pierce only needs enough hard Points to reach 100% total Pierce after gear and +Skills are taken into account.
Once the offensive core is established, the remaining Points become much more flexible. Our recommended setup invests heavily into Valkyrie, giving the Amazon a durable frontline that keeps enemies occupied while you complete Strafe volleys. A few Points in Decoy improve battlefield control and further support the summon package.
If you prefer a more defensive personal setup, some of the Points normally spent on Valkyrie can instead go into Dodge and Evade. This sacrifices part of your summon strength in exchange for stronger personal avoidance, which can feel better in dangerous Maps. More aggressive players can also reduce investment in Valkyrie or Critical Strike once diminishing returns become noticeable and redirect those Points into Decoy or other defensive passives.
Gear
Demon Machine is one of the strongest Weapons for a dedicated Strafe Amazon. Its Multishot proc gives Strafe much better pack coverage, while a high-socket version can be filled with Enhanced Damage or Maximum Damage Jewels to push physical Damage much further. Windforce and Buriza-Do Kyanon remain strong alternatives, especially before you obtain a well-rolled Demon Machine.
Shatterhead is one of the best Unique Bolts for Demon Machine Strafe, combining Enemy Physical Resistance reduction with Enhanced Damage, Bow Skills, and substantial Crushing Blow. A strong Rare or Crafted Bolts can eventually outperform it with exceptional rolls such as Enhanced Damage, Deadly Strike, Maximum Damage, and Pierce, but Shatterhead is an outstanding ready-made endgame option.
Giant Skull is an excellent Helmet thanks to its strong physical Damage support, sockets, and useful utility. Veil of Steel is another high-end option with a more defensive profile, while Valkyrie Wing works well as a cheaper transitional choice.
For Body Armour, Tyrael's Might is the premium endgame choice for maximizing physical Damage and mobility. Fortitude is the more accessible alternative and already provides enough offensive power for high-tier Mapping.
Soul Drainer is one of the most useful Gloves because it combines sustain with physical support and fits naturally into the Build. Strong Rare or Crafted Gloves with IAS, Leech, Attributes, and Resistances are also excellent if they help you complete your breakpoint.
For the Belt, Razortail is extremely valuable while you still need additional Pierce to reach 100%. Once Pierce is solved through Skills and gear, Nosferatu's Coil becomes a strong offensive alternative with IAS and sustain.
War Traveler is one of the best Boots because the added flat Damage scales very well with Strafe's repeated physical hits. High-quality Rare Boots are the main alternative if you need more Resistances, Faster Hit Recovery, or mobility.
Atma's Scarab is one of the most important Amulets for the Build because Strafe triggers Amplify Damage extremely reliably, which significantly improves Damage against tougher enemies and Physical-resistant targets. Highlord's Wrath is the main alternative if Amplify Damage is already supplied elsewhere and you want more IAS and Deadly Strike.
For Rings, Raven Frost remains an excellent choice for Cannot Be Frozen, Attack Rating, and Dexterity. The second slot is usually best used for a strong Rare/Crafted Ring with Leech, Attack Rating, Resistances, and Attributes, while Wisp Projector can be attractive in higher-end setups for its additional utility.
Charms
For the Strafe Amazon, Maximum Damage / Attack Rating Grand Charms are generally the best offensive choice because the Build scales primarily from physical Weapon Damage rather than additional Skill Levels. An Amazon Hellfire Torch and Annihilus should form the foundation of the inventory, followed by strong Damage Charms with Maximum Damage, Attack Rating, and ideally Life. Prioritize these over Passive Skill Grand Charms - the goal is maximizing the Amazon’s own Damage.
Use the remaining slots for Life, Resistances, Faster Hit Recovery, and additional Attack Rating. Attack Rating becomes especially important against Map bosses and other high-defense targets, while Life and Resistances help compensate for the naturally lighter defenses of a ranged Amazon. Hybrid Summon/Strafe variants can justify Passive and Magic Skillers, but a dedicated Demon Machine Strafe setup should generally favor physical Damage Charms instead.
Mercenary
An Act 1 Vigor Mercenary with Faith is one of the strongest support choices for a Demon Machine Strafe Amazon. Vigor greatly improves movement between packs, while Faith provides Fanaticism, increasing physical Damage and making the Strafe attack-speed requirement much easier to satisfy. With a sufficiently high Fanaticism roll, current players report that Demon Machine can reach its maximum Strafe breakpoint without needing additional IAS from the Amazon’s own equipment.
- Faith (Weapon)
- Vampire Gaze or Andariel's Visage (Helmet)
- Templar's Might, Fortitude, or another high-defense Mercenary Armour (Armour)
- Durable Rare/Crafted Gloves with IAS and sustain (Gloves)
- String of Ears or Verdungo's Hearty Cord (Belt)
- Rare Boots with Resistances and defensive modifiers (Boots)
Final Thoughts
The Strafe Amazon turns every attack into a stream of automatically targeted projectiles, combining rapid volleys with Pierce, physical Damage scaling, and repeated Demon Machine procs. Once the attack breakpoint, Attack Rating, and Damage Charms are in place, the Build becomes an extremely fluid mapper that can clear dense packs with very little manual targeting.
Its appeal comes from how mechanical the Build feels: position correctly, lock onto a pack, and let Strafe produce a cascade of hits and Multishot procs across the screen. For players who enjoy fast ranged combat with strong gear scaling and a distinctive machine-gun rhythm, Strafe offers one of the most characteristic Bowazon playstyles in Project Diablo 2.
