Summon Amazon - Valkyrie and Decoys PD2 Build

Summon Amazon - Valkyrie and Decoys PD2 Build

Summon Amazon (Summazon) uses Valkyries and Decoys for safe gameplay, strong survivability, and reliable farming in PD2

Summon Amazon (Summazon) Build

Last Update: April 16, 2026

Introduction

Summon Amazon (Summazon) is currently one of the most popular builds in Project Diablo 2 Season 12, and for a good reason. It is an exceptionally strong season starter, capable of farming almost all content with minimal gear, while also scaling into a very reliable late-game farmer. By relying on Decoys and Valkyries to do the heavy lifting, the build offers a safe and comfortable playstyle with excellent survivability.

The core gameplay revolves around summoning and repositioning your army while supporting them with utility skills like Strafe and passive bonuses. While it doesn’t match the fastest builds in raw clear speed, it compensates with consistency and safety, allowing you to handle difficult encounters like Uber Tristram and even Diablo Clone with proper setup.

This setup can handle nearly all PvE content with ease, and thanks to its summon-based nature, it is very forgiving and beginner-friendly. At the same time, it offers enough scaling through +Skills and aura interactions (such as Heart of Wolverine charges) to remain effective in endgame farming scenarios.

Recommended Breakpoints (Quick Overview)

To ensure smooth gameplay, especially when frequently summoning and repositioning your units, you should aim for the following breakpoints:

  • Faster Cast Rate (FCR): 32% (minimum) → 48% (recommended for smoother summoning)
  • Increased Attack Speed (IAS): Optional (only relevant if actively using Strafe)
  • Faster Hit Recovery (FHR): Optional, but helpful for survivability in tougher content

FCR is the most important stat here, as it directly affects how quickly you can summon and reposition your Decoys and Valkyries, which is key to maintaining control over fights.

Stat Allocation (Baseline Setup)

  • Strength: Just enough to equip your gear (e.g. ~115 for Valkyrie Wing or similar items)
  • Dexterity: Just enough for gear (or slightly higher if using Strafe more actively)
  • Vitality: Dump most points here for survivability
  • Energy: Optional – invest some points early if you struggle with mana, as Decoys and Valkyries can be expensive to cast

Pros

  • One of the best early-game starters
  • Beginner-friendly - forgiving mechanics and low mechanical requirements
  • Can farm basically all the content
  • Strong progression into mid and late game

Cons

  • Mediocre clear speed
  • Minion playstyle may not be exciting for everyone

Skill Trees

The core of this build revolves around the Passive and Magic tree, which contains all the essential scaling for your summons. However, during leveling, you will initially rely on the Javelin and Spear tree before transitioning into your final setup.

For the Javelin and Spear tree, you only allocate points here while leveling. Skills like Power Strike are used early on to progress through Normal difficulty efficiently. Once you reach the point where Decoys and Valkyries become available and strong enough (typically around Nightmare), you should respec into your summon setup. After that, no further points are invested in this tree.

The Passive and Magic tree is your main focus and defines the build. You should max Decoy and Valkyrie as your primary summons, as they are responsible for all your damage and tanking. In addition, you also max Penetrate and Pierce, which act as synergy skills. Notably, increasing your Attack Rating through Penetrate directly improves your minions’ effectiveness, making it a very valuable stat early on. This tree provides both offensive scaling and utility, making it the backbone of the entire build.

For the Bow and Crossbow tree, you only invest in Strafe along with its prerequisites, and Strafe should be maxed. It serves as a synergy for your summons and can also be used actively to apply additional damage, trigger effects, or simply make the gameplay more engaging. That said, it is not mandatory for the build to function — players who prefer a more passive playstyle can rely entirely on their summons and skip actively using Strafe during combat.

Overall, the build is very straightforward: level with Javelins, then fully commit to the Passive and Magic tree, with Strafe as an optional but valuable addition from the Bow tree.

Gear

The Summon Amazon has a straightforward but very effective gearing path, focused primarily on increasing +Skills, improving Faster Cast Rate, and enhancing your summons through aura effects and utility bonuses. Since your Decoys and Valkyries deal the majority of your damage, scaling their power is the main priority, while your own gear mostly supports summoning speed and survivability.

In the early and mid game, the build performs extremely well with simple +Skill gear. Items like +3 Skill Amulets, caster gloves, and basic Runewords such as Spirit, Lore, or Peace provide everything you need to progress comfortably. At this stage, your focus should be on reaching basic FCR breakpoints (32–48%) and stacking as many Skill Levels as possible to strengthen your summons.

As you move into more optimized setups, several key items begin to define the build. Weapons like Ebonbane Bow offer strong bonuses to your overall damage output, while Atma’s Scarab provides valuable utility through Amplify Damage procs, significantly increasing your summons’ effectiveness. Helmets like Valkyrie’s Wing further boost your Skill Levels and mobility, making them a natural fit for this build. You can also utilize Passion Runeword, with the Level 8 Heart of the Wolvering giving you nearly 100% increased damage for Decoys.

For the rest of your gear, you will typically combine high-end Uniques and Runewords that enhance both your summoning capabilities and overall efficiency. Arachnid Mesh is a top-tier choice for its +Skills and Faster Cast Rate, helping you reach smoother summoning breakpoints. Rings like Wisp Projector provide additional Skill Levels and useful utility, while Doom’s Finger offers strong bonuses to your overall performance.

In endgame setups, Enigma Runeword becomes a highly desirable option, significantly improving your mobility and allowing you to reposition your summons instantly. This greatly enhances your clear speed and overall efficiency, especially in maps. Boots like War Traveler are also commonly used for their added utility and Magic Find, making them a solid choice for farming-focused setups.

Overall, gearing for the Summon Amazon is about maximizing +Skills and utility, while maintaining enough Faster Cast Rate to comfortably manage your summons. With the right combination of items, the build scales very well into endgame, remaining both efficient and extremely safe across all types of content.

Charms

For Charms, the setup is very similar to most builds in Project Diablo 2. Annihilus and Hellfire Torch are core pieces, providing valuable bonuses to Skills, Attributes, and Resistances.

For the rest of your inventory, you should prioritize Grand Charms with bonuses to Passive and Magic Skills, as they directly scale your Decoys and Valkyries. Ideally, these should also include additional Life for better survivability.

Your Small Charms can be used to fill any remaining gaps — typically Resistances, Life, or Faster Cast Rate if needed to reach your desired breakpoints.

Mercenary

The Summon Amazon benefits greatly from a well-chosen Mercenary, as your minions scale very well with external auras and debuffs. There are a few strong options depending on whether you want more damage, speed, or utility.

For general use, the Act 1 Fire Mercenary (Vigor) is a very popular choice. The Vigor Aura greatly improves your movement speed, making farming smoother and more efficient. When equipped with Witchwild String, this Mercenary can also provide Amplify Damage procs, which significantly increase your summons’ damage output. This setup is especially strong early and mid game due to its balance of speed and utility.

Another solid option is the Act 4 Dark Mercenary with Amplify Damage, which offers more consistent access to this powerful debuff. This makes it a good choice if you want to maximize your damage output without relying on chance-based procs.

For maximum damage scaling, the Act 5 Might Mercenary is often considered the strongest option. The Might Aura directly boosts your Decoys’ and Valkyries’ damage, and when paired with a weapon like Vile Husk, it further enhances your overall DPS through additional effects and utility.

In terms of gear, most setups aim to improve your Mercenary’s survivability while supporting your build. Armors like Fortitude Runeword are excellent for boosting damage and durability, while belts such as String of Ears provide valuable damage reduction. Helmets with Life Steal or defensive bonuses are also highly recommended to keep your Mercenary alive in tougher encounters.

Overall, your Mercenary should complement your playstyle — Act 1 for speed, Act 4 for consistent debuffs, or Act 5 for maximum damage — all of which are viable choices depending on your needs and progression stage.

Final Thoughts

Summon Amazon (Summazon) is a safe and reliable build that excels at controlling the battlefield with Valkyries and Decoys. While not the fastest clearer, it offers a very comfortable playstyle and strong survivability, making it a great choice for both beginners and more relaxed farming.
