All New Runewords in Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 2.4

A list of all the newly introduced Runewords for D2R in Patch 2.4

All NEW Runewords
In Patch 2.4 for Diablo 2 Resurrected

Introduction

One of the biggest content updates for Diablo 2 is just around the corner. We know all along that the Patch will introduce Ladder game-mode to Diablo 2 Resurrected, and some quality of life changes, but as we are getting closer and closer to the actual release, a lot more interesting facts are coming to light. Patch 2.4 heavily focuses on class and skill balance changes, in order to make plenty of builds more viable, but in order to even further enhance players' experience, a lot of new Runewords will be introduced into Diablo 2 Resurrected.

The main goal of this article is to present and evaluate all of the Runewords that will be introduced in Patch 2.4 with build recommendations they can be used for. If that isn't enough to get you hyped, you should know that some of the upcoming Runewords are potentially going to be the BiS (best-in-slot) Items for some of the builds. Without any further delay, let's get down to the most interesting part - the actual list of new and best Runewords in Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 2.4.

New Runewords in Diablo 2 Resurrected

OBSESSION
TYPE: Staff RUNE ORDER: Zod + Ist + Lem + Lum + Io + Nef
  • Indestructible
  • 24% Chance to cast level 10 Weaken when struck
  • +4 To All Skills
  • +65% Faster Cast Rate
  • +60% Faster Hit Recovery
  • Knockback
  • +10 To Vitality
  • +10 To Energy
  • Increase Maximum Life 15-25% (varies)
  • Regenerate Mana 15-30% (varies)
  • All Resistances +60-70 (varies)
  • 75% Extra Gold from Monsters
  • 30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

The stats on this Staff are really something for spellcaster characters. Though because of its' high cost with all the high Runes required to complete it, it may not be as popular as it could. The bonuses to Skill levels and Faster Cast Rate can be easily matched by Heart of the Oak and Spirit Runewords, but those two will not provide such a high bonus to Maximum Life (up to a whopping 25% is just above anything else in the game, and you no longer need Strength for a Monarch so you end up with even more Vitality). You also gain higher Fire Resistance, which is considered the "most important" one in Diablo 2 Resurrected. Obsession also offers 60% Faster Hit Recovery, which lets a Sorceress character reach a reasonable breakpoint with just this item alone. Don't forget that you can make this Runeword in a Staff with bonuses to specific Skills, which can make it the best in slot weapon for those builds. Because of this, basically, any Life-based Sorceress build can use it effectively. You can find all our recommended Sorceress builds in this article.

FLICKERING FLAME
TYPE: Helm RUNE ORDER: Nef + Pul + Vex
  • Level 4-8 Resist Fire Aura When Equipped (varies)
  • +3 To Fire Skills
  • -10-15% to Enemy Fire Resistance (varies)
  • +30% Enhanced Defense
  • +30 Defense Vs. Missile
  • +50-75 To Mana (varies)
  • Half Freeze Duration
  • +5% To Maximum Fire Resist
  • Poison Length Reduced by 50%

This appears to be one of the most interesting Runewords that are getting into the game in Patch 2.4. It just might be the BiS item for a lot of Fire builds which include Fire Druids, Fire Sorcs, Fire Trap Assassins, and even possibly Holy Fire Aura Paladin. Not to mention possibly usage on A3 Merc. This Helmet offers just massive straight-up buff to all Fire Damage with two powerful mods on it: +3 to All Fire Skills and up to 15% Reduced FIre Resistance of nearby enemies. The Resist Fire Aura also boosts your Fire Resistance which is extremely important on Hell difficulty. Sadly, the Vex Rune is quite expensive because of its' presence in the widely popular Heart of the Oak Runeword, but being possibly the BiS item for certain builds, it will surely be made quite often.

Some potential builds that can use Flickering Flame include:

  1. Molten Boulder/Volcano Fire Druid Build (coming soon)
  2. Meteor/Fire Ball Sorceress Build
  3. Wave of Fire Trap Assassin Build
  4. Holy Fire Aura Paladin Build
MIST
TYPE: Bow and Crossbow RUNE ORDER: Cham + Shael + Gul + Thul + Ith
  • Level 8-12 Concentration Aura When Equipped (varies)
  • +3 To All Skills
  • 20% Increased Attack Speed
  • +100% Piercing Attack
  • +325-375% Enhanced Damage (varies)
  • +9 To Maximum Damage
  • 20% Bonus to Attack Rating
  • Adds 3-14 Cold Damage
  • Freeze Target +3
  • +24 Vitality
  • All Resistances +40

Another very interesting end-game Runeword that will surely find its use on Act 1 Mercenaries and Bowazon/Amazon characters. Solid DPS bonuses from the Enhanced Damage of up to 375% and 20% Increased Attack Speed, combined with Concentration Aura, will surely make it a good alternative to other expensive Bow Runewords. It's going to be a really interesting contest between Faith and Mist in Patch 2.4. We may even see some interesting combinations with Mist and Flickering Flame Runewords on Fire-based Amazon/Bowazon characters.

The extra Resistances offered by Mist Runeword can also come in handy for Amazons, as they are often seen going pure glass cannons that render them vulnerable to elemental damage on Hell difficulty.

Some of the possible builds that can utilize this Patch 2.4 Bow Runeword are:

  1. Freezing Arrow Bowazon Build
  2. Multiple Shot/Guided Arrow Bowazon Amazon Build
PLAGUE
TYPE: Sword RUNE ORDER: Cham + Shael + Um
  • 20% Chance to cast level 12 Lower Resist when struck
  • 25% Chance to cast level 15 Poison Nova on striking
  • Level 13-17 Cleansing Aura When Equipped (varies)
  • +1-2 All Skills
  • +20% Increased Attack Speed
  • +220-320% Enhanced Damage (varies)
  • -23% To Enemy Poison Resistance
  • 0.3% (0-29.7) Deadly Strike (Based on Character Level)
  • +25% Chance of Open Wounds
  • Freezes Target +3
Plague Runeword was already available in the game files prior to the introduction of Patch 2.4 but it was never actually made available to the players. This weapon appears to have some solid base stats, but it doesn't fit any of the popular builds. Some ideas are circulating about possible Elemental Druid builds that wouldn't mind getting hit to proc the Lower Resist, or some Support Necromancers that can benefit from the reduction to enemies Poison Resistance. Potentially you could use it almost on any character class, but given the cost of Runes required, it just wouldn't feel right to be the first and optimal choice for any of them. We can assume that some non-meta experimental builds will be found running around with the Plague swords, but as it is right now, it's most likely an expensive weapon for your Act 3 and 5 Mercs
PATTERN
TYPE: Claw RUNE ORDER: Tal + Ort + Thul
  • +30% Faster Block Rate
  • +40-80% Enhanced Damage (varies)
  • 10% Bonus to Attack Rating
  • Adds 17-62 Fire Damage
  • Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
  • Adds 3-14 Cold Damage
  • +75 Poison Damage Over 5 Seconds
  • +6 to Strength
  • +6 to Dexterity
  • All Resistances +15
Assassin exclusive Runeword that might be just a perfect weapon for leveling your character that primarily utilizes the Martial Arts Tree. It costs nearly nothing, as most of the Runes can be fairly easily acquired, and Pattern itself offers quite useful bonuses, both defensive and offense-wise. The added damage of four different types will surely come in handy when progressing through Acts, and as a weapon, it also offers quite a bit of defensive-oriented stats like Faster Block Rate, Attributes, and Resistances
UNBENDING WILL
TYPE: Sword RUNE ORDER: Fal + Io + Ith + Eld + El + Hel
  • 18% Chance to cast Level 18 Taunt on striking
  • +3 To Combat Skills (Barbarian Only)
  • +20-30% Increased Attack Speed (varies)
  • +300-350% Enhanced Damage (varies)
  • +9 To Maximum Damage
  • +50 To Attack Rating
  • +75% Damage to Undead
  • +50 Attack Rating Against Undead
  • 8-10% Life Stolen Per Hit (varies)
  • Prevent Monster Heal
  • +10 To Strength
  • +10 To Vitality
  • Damage Reduced By 8
  • +1 Light Radius
  • Requirements -20%

A very solid budget-friendly Runeword for Melee characters. Given the cost of Runes (Fal being the highest here) that can be obtained from the Countess, it offers really solid stats with good Enhanced Damage and Attack Speed and a +3 to Combat Skills. All combined makes it a very solid choice for Barbarians, but with the extra chance to Taunt enemies on Striking, it feels more suited for Act 5 Mercenary. He will be able not only to deal tons of damage if you make this RW in an Ethereal Weapon but also offer good defensive utility by reducing the number of enemies targeting your own character.

Potential builds that can use Unbending Will Runeword (mainly for the leveling and early Hell stages):

  1. Whirlwind Barbarian build for D2R
  2. Frenzy Barbarian Build
WISDOM
TYPE: Helm RUNE ORDER: Pul + Ith + Eld
  • +33% Piercing Attack
  • +15-25% Bonus to Attack Rating (varies)
  • 4-8% Mana Stolen Per Hit (varies)
  • +30% Enhanced Defense
  • +10 Energy
  • 15% Slower Stamina Drain
  • Cannot Be Frozen
  • +5 Mana After Each Kill
  • 15% Damage Taken Goes to Mana

Yet another low-level and budget Runeword that seems to be exceptionally good for leveling up as Amazon or possibly some Melee characters as well. Thanks to the Mana Steal, Cannot be Frozen, and additional Attack Rating, this should also help you get through mid-game and possibly get started on Hell difficulty as well. It doesn't appear to be of any use for higher-level characters and end-game content
